Villa Aria is a very special place, a historic house which has been refurbished to the highest standard by the owners, both architects. We flew to Trieste ( 1h 45m drive) and had a rental car. We especially enjoyed the charm of the house, how beautiful it is presented with lights at night. We also enjoyed all the different seating areas outdoors, with super stylish and comfortable outdoor furniture, giving you the option to hang out with the group or withdraw to a quiet zone with a book – or for a snooze. All meals were enjoyed al fresco, by the large outdoor dining table, with fresh herbs and lettuce from the garden. Although the house offers plenty of indoor space, with a large kitchen, dining room and tv/lounge room – Summer in Croatia is to be spent outdoors. 🙂 As a couple we found Villa Aria as the perfect family retreat, with beautiful interior, large comfortable beds with high quality linen, fluffy towels, bath tub in our room – and last but not least, a selection of luxurious toiletries from Etro… Our children enjoyed having a tv in their room, spending time in the infinity pool – and the ice cube machine in the fridge. The property lies at the end of the small village of Gostinjac with neighbours to the back of the house and open forest view in all other directions. From the 2nd floor you have a ocean view and you can also see the mainland (especially beautiful at night). There’s a bakery, 5 minutes drive away, in ÄŒižići. In the village there is a small convenience store (which also has fresh loaf in the morning), next to a local restaurant. Konzum in Krk is the best food shop in the area. Of local produce they produce and sell wine, olive oil and honey. During our weeks stay we dined at TripAdvisor’s top recommendations on Krk Island, but the local Gostinjac place served the most memorable meal; a spit roast pork with all the trimmings. (Only weekends) Another nearby restaurant, Zora in Dobrinj, has the best Surlice (local pasta served with Goulash). When there you must see the view from the church – one of the highest points on the island. Other places to see includes Vrbnik – with the worlds narrowest street Vrbnik also has a brilliant butcher, worth visiting if you are doing a bbq at the house. On your way there – go for a wine tasting! Best beach experience is Basca; rent sun loungers, paddel boat and have lunch at Restaurant Latino – when you need a break from the sun. Really happy with our week at Villa Aria. The hosts went out of their way to accommodate us, from our delayed arrival to filling up the fridge with fresh groceries. Rajka & Boris are the best hosts, excellent communication and very welcoming. We can only strongly recommend Villa Aria – and we look forward to our next stay!
